The SOLO Songwriting Festival & Workshop is Expanding the Community Impact for Lafayette in its Second Year May 21-26, 2019

Lafayette, LA - The South Louisiana Songwriters Festival and Workshop (SOLO) returns in May with the songwriting retreat that local songwriter Marc Broussard called “the most prolific week” of his professional career. In an effort to find new ways to support the Lafayette Parish music community, SOLO is adding a new industry conference this year in conjunction with the public festival featuring some of the most successful local, national and international songwriters of our time coming to Lafayette to hone their songwriting together. Lafayette provides the perfect songwriting retreat setting for songwriters of any genre and level, as described by participants and organizers during last year’s event.  If you’re a songwriter, it’s the annual creative gathering for songwriting that you won’t want to miss. If you’re looking to experience the event as an audience member, you’ll want to claim your weekend pass to get access to the magical performances that only occur during SOLO.

Now entering into its second year, SOLO was new to the US last year through a partnership with the Buddy Holly Educational Foundation and Lafayette’s CREATE Initiative. In its first year, forty songwriters from all over the globe came together in Lafayette for SOLO. They gathered in a creative space where they could collaborate with local musicians and create songs that could have only been written in Acadiana. The stories of the songs were only outshined by the stories of the positive impacts SOLO had on local songwriters. “It was hard to imagine that a group of songwriters who didn’t know each other could gather daily to work together,” explains SOLO Fest Producer and Co-founder Mark Falgout. It was impressive to watch it progress from the nervous energy of the first morning, to the creative excitement of the second and to the moving final performance of the new songs on the last night. We knew the magic would happen but to be able to share it with our community was beyond what we expected.”

The second edition of SOLO Fest is May 21 to 26th, 2019 and will once again combine the daily songwriting retreats with teams writing all over creative venues in Lafayette followed by evening and weekend performances by workshop participants and invited guests.

“In Lafayette Parish and Acadiana, we are surrounded by great songwriters and songs that we all know and know how to dance to. But festivals and dance halls rarely give our musicians an opportunity to fully tell us the story behind the songs. We are so proud of our music community and often, it is our community itself and our culture that has lent itself to the creation of such great music through our talented musicians and songwriters. The workshop is a powerful week for local musicians and audiences to connect and show support for one another.,” said Kate Durio, Director of the CREATE Initiative, founding partner of SOLO.

The complete festival schedule will be released in April but organizers can confirm a rare solo performance by Nick Lowe, one of the most respected and prolific songwriters and artists of the rock’n’roll era as well as an All-Star Buddy Holly Jam presented by one of SOLO’s founding partners, The Buddy Holly Educational Foundation. A limited number of exclusive Rader “Key Player“ Passes for the entire festival are currently available for purchase and general festival tickets will go on sale on March 22nd.

SOLO is Committed to the Professional Growth of Songwriters
While the event’s inaugural year focused on a creative retreat followed by a public facing festival, this year organizers are expanding to bring in an industry conference and in-school education program.

“The goal of SOLO was always to drive financial stability for songwriters by giving them tools to allow them to monetize their creations. Our objective this year is to expand that knowledge base by offering panel discussions, workshops and Q&As with industry stakeholders focused on publishing, songcrafting, writing for TV, film and games, sound editing, recording, and more to grow our music industry and further sustain our music economy,” explains Lafayette Mayor-President Joel Robideaux.

Limited registration for SOLO’s music industry conference will be open soon and will target local and regional songwriters of any level to make professional connections in the music industry by bringing these opportunities to Lafayette. Panelists and speakers from Lafayette, across the US and representing various established music companies are already confirmed for the 2-day conference set for May 24 and 25th.

SOLO Supports the Next Generation of Songwriters
Fostering new talent is key to supporting a healthy industry. Therefore, SOLO is also partnering with CREATE, area schools, and working professionals to offer in-school workshops to students. These workshops will guide students in the songwriting process as well as bring them to follow a typical real-life audition to perform their new creations at SOLO.

Our students are extremely talented and being able to work with SOLO songwriters in their classroom will be an invaluable opportunity to see what is involved in a songwriting career as well as a creative push to tell their own story,” says  Jane Vidrine, Guitar teacher at L.J. Alleman Fine Arts Magnet Academy.

SOLO 2018 alum, Emily Ortego, will be one of the in-school songwriters. “I’ve worked with kids in the past and it’s always an inspiring experience”. Ortego herself has had a momentous few months since she was a offered a scholarship to participate in the 2018 SOLO songwriting workshop and although she can’t divulge any details, she invites everyone to watch American Idol this season.

SOLO Scholarships
Thanks to many community partners workshop scholarships are available again in 2019. All genres and levels are invited to apply. Recipients will get to attend the songwriting workshop and perform at the festival. Participants leave the workshop with new songs and new connections in the music industry. Applications are open until the end of March at www.solosongwriters.com.

2013 EatLafayette Campaign Continues With AT&T Support

(Lafayette, La.) - AT&T, a leading provider of worldwide telecommunications services, renewed its sponsorship for the 2013 EatLafayette™ by Lafayette Travel campaign. AT&T has supported the campaign for multiple years. The campaign that promotes Lafayette, Louisiana’s locally owned restaurants runs through September 2 and touts the Fly Lafayette Club as its title sponsor.
“Lafayette’s culture and our corporate culture can be traced back for decades,” said Donna Byrne, regional director for AT&T Louisiana. “The EatLafayette campaign highlights how special this area is through its cuisine. The culture and the history of the community are what make the food so special. Many of the recipes in our restaurants are generations old.”

AT&T’s history is so rich that one can trace its roots back to the first man who invented the first practical telephone in 1876, Alexander Graham Bell. AT&T is responsible for the first transatlantic phone call in 1927. Other creations that AT&T scientists are credited for are the first transistor, the solar cell, and the C++ programming language.

AT&T builds technical innovations for the benefit of its customers. It implements next-generation technologies and network advancements. AT&T’s creates and designs new global networks, processes, and service platforms that allow the best performance for its customers.

With the nation’s largest 4G network covering over 292 million people, AT&T provides an abundant amount of services, from its revolutionary smartphones to its next-generation TV services.

“Want to tell your friends about this year’s EatLafayette campaign?” said Byrne. “Use your smartphone and computer through our network to share the website or stay connected through social media. This really helps promote the restaurants.”

“EatLafayette and AT&T share long-standing core values: not only do they support the community they reside in, but they consider themselves to be members of the community as well,” said Byrne. “As a philanthropic company, it only makes sense for AT&T to sponsor a campaign that supports locally-owned restaurants.”

EatLafayette by Lafayette Travel brought to you by the Fly Lafayette Club, has celebrated Lafayette’s cuisine for nine years. This year’s edition of the campaign markets Lafayette, Louisiana’s one-of-a-kind locally owned restaurants signed up 73 participants, a record number.

It began a simple concept of helping locally owned eateries attract customers that grew to a multi-media campaign that now spans 11 weeks. The campaign is funded by sponsorships, registration fees, Lafayette Travel and support by local media groups.

Behind The Scenes Done Right

Jurassic Park is re-released today in 3D - most of us can't wait to catch it in theaters! We found this video this week - how the Tyrannosaurus Rex was constructed from beginning to end - and even though it is 10 minutes long, which is pretty long for recreational internet viewing, we couldn't miss one second.

The content here is so informative and transparent that we couldn't stop watching - we wanted to know more!

This is a great behind the scenes video. The content is so rich that they didn't need to do anything fancy at all and we really don't mind.

We're big fans of beautiful marketing products - who isn't? But when it comes down to the heart of the matter, it's about the content.

If you have something to say, don't worry about how professional it looks or if it has pretty graphics and music. All that comes later, and anyone can do that. What makes our clients special is what they have to say, what they can contribute and share. What is it that you do that sets you apart?

That's where we bring the most value to your company. We help determine your message and give you the confidence to yell it from the rooftops (in your target market, of course). We prompt you about what's important to you, what your product or service is about. We help you figure out the big picture and then zoom in on what's important to your customers so we can help you sell it. That's what we do. That's what's important to us.

Preparations for Ninth Annual EatLafayette™ by Lafayette.travel Campaign Underway

(Lafayette, La.) – Preparations for the ninth annual EatLafayette™ by Lafayette.travel campaign are now underway.

EatLafayette is an annual campaign that celebrates Lafayette’s locally-owned restaurants. This year’s official campaign will run June 17 – Sept. 2.

EatLafayette was created in 2005 to give locally-owned restaurants a collective advertising and marketing boost to help compete with the growing number of chain restaurants in the Acadiana area. The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness with local diners and visitors alike of all the locally-owned and operated restaurants that offer a cornucopia of cuisines.

EatLafayette by Lafayette.travel is glad to announce that The Fly Lafayette Club has once again signed on as a title sponsor.

“The relationship between the two campaigns is a natural one,” says Ben Berthelot, executive director of the Lafayette Convention and Visitors Commission (LCVC, Lafayette.travel).

“In our partnership with the Fly Lafayette Club, we encourage people to choose local providers whenever they can. It not only supports our local economy, but also fosters our sense of community, which is already so strong and so unique here,” added Berthelot.

EatLafayette is currently accepting registrations from locally-owned restaurants within Lafayette Parish. Restaurants in Acadiana but outside of Lafayette Parish must be a member of the LCVC to participate.

For a one-time fee, participating restaurants receive the following:
  • Inclusion in the extensive print, radio and television advertising campaign.
  • Year-round inclusion on EatLafayette.com.
  • E-Newsletter marketing opportunities with the campaign’s extensive database.
  • Year-round promotion on Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Urbanspoon, Blogger, Pinterest, Instagram and YouTube.
  • Inclusion in the EatLafayette Brochure.
  • The opportunity to participate in many sponsored promotions.
  • The opportunity to participate in the Kick-Off Event, A Taste of Lafayette (last year’s event hosted over 800 guests).
Early Registration deadline is March 15 for $250. Regular and final registration deadline is April 26 for $300. Locally-owned restaurants looking to participate in EatLafayette by Lafayette.travel should email help@eatlafayette.com for a registration form.

The 62 EatLafayette restaurants that participated in 2012 planned for the campaign and promotions as part of their yearly advertising and marketing strategy.

“With rising costs and shrinking margins, it becomes a challenge to bring customers in without deep discounts,” says Tim Metcalf, President at Dean-O’s Pizza.
Metcalf added, “EatLafayette is the perfect opportunity to bring in new faces without huge costs. By encouraging locals to keep their hard earned dollars local and visit Lafayette’s best restaurants, [EatLafayette is] a cost effective marketing plan. Dean-O’s uses EatLafayette as the centerpiece of their summer ad campaign. In simple terms, ‘It works.’”

Richard and Lori Hurst, owners of Poor Boy’s Riverside Inn and Little River Inn are also active participants in EatLafayette, claiming, “EatLafayette is what keeps our Cajun culture alive!”

Their 80-year restaurant concept has stood the test of time and still sees EatLafayette as key to their marketing strategy. “What a wonderful program to educate our locals about the importance of the local mom and pops in business – we are both innovators and the keepers of the traditional Cajun cuisine we all enjoy and love. EatLafayette reminds people about [our] wonderful culinary heritage. Love the program!”

New eateries are praising EatLafayette’s efforts, as well. Pam and Thomas Peters from The Lab Handcrafted Coffee and Comforts say, “The Taste of Lafayette Kick-Off event alone was worth the cost for us – especially since it took place just a few weeks before we opened our doors for business! It was a great way to get in front of people who really appreciate local, quality restaurants without any risk to them.”

For more information, contact LCVC at 337-232-3737 or visit the EatLafayette website at eatlafayette.com.

About EatLafayette by Lafayette.travel
What started as a conversation between two local businessmen in Lafayette, Louisiana has evolved into a successful promotions campaign that provides a unique opportunity for people to experience local cuisine in Lafayette. Charlie Goodson, owned of Charley G’s Seafood Grill, and Gerald Breaux, former executive director of the Lafayette Convention and Visitors Commission got together in early 2005 to discuss how locally-owned restaurants could gain visibility in a market flooded with big-dollar franchise restaurant advertising.

The result of those conversations was a summer EatLafayette campaign that is now in its ninth year. EatLafayette is a two-and-a-half-month celebration showcasing the restaurants that make Acadiana culture so appetizing. The 2012 campaign was a true success with 62 restaurants signed up to participate. 2013 registrations are expected to increase.
